Any time a friend asks if I want to head out to Santa Cruz for the day I can’t help but say yes. There’s just something about that town that has my heart. I love the laid back vibe that I think goes missing in the Bay Area sometimes. On a recent trip we stopped by the main dock to see if we could spot some seals. Lucky us, we found quite a few just hanging out and lounging. There were two in particular who caught our eye.

The lighter colored seal had somehow managed to snag a spot on the rafters under the dock (He (she?) must have hopped up while the tide was in and just refused to leave). Another seal was determined to get on up there too and tried an admirable number of times to jump out of the sea and land on a rafter of his own but failed to stick the landing. The kiddos were delighted to watch him try though so I’d call it a success.
