Every year since Margaux was 2, I’ve made her Halloween costume, and a Halloween themed dress. Even when I was busy running my blowout salon in Dallas (yes I owned a blowout salon in Dallas) I still made time to make her a costume and a dress. Or a shirt at the very least. What can I say, Halloween is my favorite holiday.
This is my second fall running my photography business here in the Bay Area and if you know anything about photographers, you know that fall is the ultimate busy season. This fall I’m booked every weekend and some weekdays (HOLY MOLY) which I’m so freaking stoked about because I can’t even explain how much I love what I do, but at the same time, I don’t have as much time for things like heading to the pumpkin patch (I swear we’ll go to at least one before October 31!) or making costumes. I’m still determined to sew a Halloween themed dress, but when I got a flier in my email from Pottery Barn Kids advertising a sale on Halloween costumes I put aside my mom guilt and clicked buy.
I did let her pick which costume, and to be honest, once I calculated the cost of fabric and various accoutrements needed to sew one myself, it came out cheaper to just buy it. ALSO. She picked a superhero costume and since she’s still in the age of playing dress up, we should be able to get at least a year out of it. Not to mention, she looks freaking awesome in this costume, AMIRIGHT?
I did sew up a Halloween treat bag so even if I don’t get around to sewing the dress (fingers crossed), I’ll have made something for her to remember this year’s Halloween.
