In June, my mom came to visit (she and my dad still live on the island of Guam) and we decided to take a little road trip up to Mendocino. I hadn’t been and the week she came was so dang hot (it hit 100 degrees and we don’t have AC!) that we were glad we booked the trip! We drove from Fremont across the San Mateo bridge and up Highway 1. As we headed North we pulled over to explore the Devil’s Slide bunker in Pacifica. I had no idea what it was but it looked cool.

Turns out the bunker was built during WWII as a triangulation station but is now covered in graffiti. It was a fun little detour, though a little bit tough with the kiddo. We didn’t explore too much inside but maybe one day I’ll go back with my husband and do a little more exploring!

Mendocino had perfect weather and we had a really great time checking out the cute town and Fort Bragg’s little downtown as well. We went hiking, beachcombing, sandcastle building, checked out the botanical gardens, and just spent time with each other. We stayed at the Inn at Schoolhouse Creek which was cozy and comfortable, and the kitchenette was the perfect size for making breakfast and dinner. I don’t know about you but I get sick of eating out pretty quickly so that was a nice bonus. We did eat breakfast in the Inn’s restaurant one morning and it was delicious.

It was a great first visit to Mendocino and I can’t wait to go back with my husband. Maybe we’ll try camping? Fingers crossed we can book a campsite!
